To cope with the long-term drought, Ethiopia has vigorously promoted the use of artificial turf as an alternative to natural grass for sports fields.

Ethiopia has long been plagued by the problem of water shortage during the dry season. The continuous irrigation of natural football fields is difficult to sustain. During drought periods, the grass on the fields turns yellow and the fields deteriorate severely. Natural grass lawns require regular watering, trimming, and fertilization, resulting in high maintenance costs.

Artificial grass lawns do not require irrigation. They contain anti-UV ingredients and are adapted to the strong light environment of the local plateau, allowing for all-day and high-frequency use. Recently, many local governments and football clubs in Addis Ababa have launched renovation projects for the fields, prioritizing the use of artificial grass lawns.

Industry experts say that artificial grass lawns are water-saving, easy to maintain, perfectly adapted to the climate conditions of Ethiopia, and are a sustainable sports infrastructure solution. They will continue to be widely adopted throughout the country in the future.
