Preparing For The 2029 Africa Cup Of Nations, Ethiopia Plans To Upgrade The Artificial Turf in Its Stadiums
Aug 17, 2026
To fully prepare for the bid to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations, Ethiopia is promoting the standardization of stadium renovations across the country.

The African Football Confederation has strict standards for the surface of the competition venues. Natural grass cannot withstand multiple consecutive high-intensity matches. Akakakaliti, Deradava and other key stadiums are being evaluated for the installation of FIFA-certified artificial turf. The artificial turf has stable flatness and is not affected by dry or rainy seasons, allowing it to host matches continuously.

The stadium upgrade will fill the hardware gap in large-scale events in Ethiopia, help Ethiopia enhance its ability to host continental football events, and promote the modernization of the country's football infrastructure.
